Glen McConnell
Christchurch East
Glen has been married for 32 years, has five adult children and four grandchildren. He grew up in Christchurch, where he has raised his family and worked most of his life. It is very much his home.

Glen has been a board member of Agape Trust working with East Christchurch at-risk youth, then formed a cooperation group to join all the local youth programs for Government funding. He is a qualified carpenter and has extensive experience in construction, large scale housing and disaster management.
Glen owns a project management consultancy business specialising in commercial and large scale residential construction, disaster recovery management, business systems management, and governance. He was a senior manager in a government department and an acting NZ manager of National Initiatives and Minor works for Education Infrastructure, including work for the Canterbury earthquake recovery. Glen was also Senior Project Manager for Vero Commercial for East Christchurch and worked with the then local MP, assisting business owners stranded in the residential red zone.
Glen’s interests include:
- Mountain biking, surfing.
- Building his own pad.
- Being in leadership at Harmony Church.
- Played and coached to rep level in a variety of sports including a period in the training squad for the Olympic swim team.
The portfolios of Housing & Construction, and EQC are areas Glen is keen to have a political influence in. He has had extensive experience in managing the transition of new technologies and ideas into real world use. This means the Innovation Portfolio holds great interest for Glen.
