The COVID-19 virus has led nations around the world to take radical action to prevent its spread. In New Zealand, the Labour Government has adopted an approach of eradication at any cost. That strategy has failed.

In the false hope of eradicating the virus, we now face Labour’s Second Wave of Lockdowns. There is no end in sight for the current lockdown or for ending COVID-19 restrictions at lower levels. Labour’s plan is for years of rolling lockdowns.

Housing Policy

New Zealand has a major housing crisis with an immediate high demand. This has been caused by high immigration numbers and many returning Kiwis who are entering the housing market.

The Government currently spends up to $600 Million dollars a quarter on ‘Emergency and Temporary’ housing which is literally money down the drain. When houses are built they are cheap, unhealthy and do not last for very long.

Labour’s promise — through their much heralded Kiwibuild program to provide 10,000 houses per year — has failed. They have only produced approximately 150 houses each year.

New Zealand needs a Government with experienced housing industry professionals, who know how to work with key stakeholders involved in the three Ministry portfolios of Housing, Building and Construction, and Urban Development.

There is a need for residential sections in many regions. Emergency housing is at an all-time high. Property values have continued to climb during 2020 because supply has not met the demand.

Agriculture Policy

Farming is the backbone of New Zealand. For generations, tangata whenua and farming families have sweated and toiled to turn this nation into a fertile and rich garden. Outside of the few large cities, most people live close to the land that feeds them, and in turn, are blessed to enjoy our tiny corner of paradise.

Successive governments have acted to destroy that legacy. Policies are being implemented that will, according to Federated Farmers, “end pastoral farming in parts of the country.

Health Policy

The Covid Response has shown us that simply focusing on medical issues fails to fully address what makes us healthy. Treading the current narrow path with a model that focuses on disease and pharmaceutical treatments, which fails to meet the wider public needs, is limited and outdated.

The Medicines Act 1981 legislates against alternative medicines and treatments when a person should have the right to choose their own healthcare. We will restore that right. The Medicines Health Act 1981 is out of date and requires modification. Advance NZ considers it requires urgent review and clarification in areas that cover the assessment, treatment and rights of people with a mental health disorder.

Advance NZ aims to promote true wellness —hauora — within New Zealand, to improve quality of life, and reduce the need for medical intervention.

Our party’s health policies are based on the holistic view of health, taking into account the four main cornerstones of well-being: Physical, Mental, Family and Spiritual. This Te Whare Tapa Whā model, developed by Mason Durie, is already promoted by the Ministry of Health, but not followed by our medical or legal systems.

Democracy Policy

Democracy is precious and must be protected so future generations can enjoy the same rights and freedoms previous generations, at great cost, fought to protect.

Our elected representatives are under a clear obligation to speak for their constituents in Parliament, to represent the will of the people and make laws in the people’s best interest.

Firearms Policy

The people of Aotearoa New Zealand have a rich history of gun ownership and hunting in the outdoors. The rural environment and provincial areas of New Zealand offer great access to hunting and outdoor pursuits.

As an outdoors, agriculture, and gun-collecting people, there are approximately 300,000 licensed firearms owners in our country.

There are recognised issues with the way our Government manages the firearms topic. The new law was introduced on the back of a great tragedy, the high emotion this horrible crime generated led to a knee-jerk reaction in the creation of the current Firearms law

We want to protect our community as well as our democratic rights that include safe and legal gun ownership.

Immigration Policy

The levels of immigration by successive governments has been damaging for New Zealand’s economy and New Zealand’s long-term interests. We will conduct a review of New Zealand’s capacity to handle future migration with a view to setting a significantly lower overall number of net migrations.

Based on the current economic situation post-COVID, we are going to delay further immigration until it is economically feasible to do so.

Education Policy

Education is one of the hallmarks of a civilised society that aims to pass down knowledge from generation to generation so as a team we can achieve better and greater things.

Advance NZ believes our future, economic, cultural and social wellbeing will depend on our knowledge base and our ability to understand and to innovate in all fields of action. Our policy will reflect on this by increasing the support and funding our school systems are receiving. From our Universities and tertiary institutions. To our Schooling and Early Childhood Education programs - every step of the system is built on the previous one.

Maori Policy

There are nearly a dozen historical documents that have been involved in the agreements of Aotearoa and the creation of New Zealand, and they are still in power today.

However, it has been far easier to simply ignore them to history, only pulling them out when needing to make a statement, rather than confront the truth of their design. This purposeful avoidance of our beginnings has also been the core source of much of our recurring societal problems.

New Zealand is hurting. The extreme COVID Response has destroyed much of our economy and put us years behind. Massive debt levels bring fear, and the threats of austerity or more asset sales hangs over us.

There is no easy way out of this if we continue to keep clause 26 G of the Public Finance Act — the clause that says the government has to balance its books. This is the one used by Labour to justify new and larger taxation, and by National to justify asset sales.

The rest of the world stopped balancing their books in 2008. The USA issues 20% of its GDP every year as quantitative easing — the money given directly to the banking and investment classes. The United Kingdom and Canada are running at 9%.

New Zealand has done the same — breaking the rules to issue huge amounts of money to the area that needs it the least: the banking system.

5G Policy

We support the use of modern technology that is safe for human use. We note that the NZ Standards that apply to human exposure to radio frequency fields is based on evidence from the mid-1990s.

There has not been an independent safety study undertaken which accurately reflects modern cellular communications usages.

We will ensure a Parliamentary Select Committee inquiry is held to examine the available evidence, seek independent advice, as well as community views, on safe levels for human exposure to radio frequency fields.

Position On Abortion

We respect the variety of views New Zealanders hold about issues of conscience.

Billy Te Kahika is opposed to the Abortion Legislation Act, and Jami-Lee Ross voted in favour of the Act. However, both believe that Parliament made a mistake in the way the law was enacted.

Fluoride Position

We note the range of views on the use of fluoride. We oppose the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Bill currently before Parliament and, instead, will ensure that any decision by a local authority to fluoridate a water supply must only be given effect to if supported by a binding referendum of votes in that local authority's area.

We will further require that every local authority that currently fluoridates it's water supply holds a binding referendum at the 2022 council elections on whether to continue fluoridating its water supply.

Animal Welfare Policy

New Zealand claims world-class animal welfare standards, even officially recognising animals as sentient beings in 2015. That means animals are perceptually aware with individual needs, desires, and experiences giving rise to inherent interests.

But what does that mean for animals in NZ five years on?

Our country benefits economically from an international public perception that our animals are all happy and healthy whether pets, farmed or wild and that we stopped experimenting on them, neglecting them or treating them inhumanely after 2015. The reality is far from the perception and these and other hypocrisies of animal welfare need to be challenged.

We do not believe New Zealand has adequate systems in place to protect either those animals on which the economy is dependent, or those that are targeted or harmed through its wild animal control programs. New Zealand rests on its ‘world class animal welfare reputation’ without making the corresponding effort to ensure necessary change in support of these claims.
